Industrial consortium projects
This page is for industrial consortium projects. These project links are only for authorized users.
- Fundamentals of web forming (SUORA-KH) is a consortium project between VTT and five Forestcluster Ltd owner companies: UPM-Kymmene, Kemira, Tamfelt, Metso Paper and Metso Automation. Project time frame: 1.8. 2008-31.7.2010. The objective of the project is to develop a unique papermaking research environment and efficient technologies for papermaking in co-operation between partners.
- Process Intelligence for Production Efficiency (PäTeVä) is a consortium project between Stora Enso, KCL and Tampere University of Technology. Project time frame: 1.11.2008-30.04.2010. The amount of process data generated from board and paper manufacturing processes has vastly increased along with developments in information and measurement technology. Utilization of the data has not progressed as rapidly as its acquisition. At the current state of art, the utilization of the data is unsystematic and inadequate. Radical improvement in the exploitation of process data is possible by developing a process intelligence concept that integrates new mathematical approaches with systematic and user oriented collection and utilization of empirical knowledge.
- PIHI including networking between Kemira, Metso, Tamfelt, UPM, Andritz, Metsä-Botnia, M-real, Imerys, Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki University, University of Jyväskylä, Åbo Akademi, Oulu University, VTT, KCL, STFI. Project time frame: 1.3.2008-28.2.2010. The PIHI program focuses on developing radical new solutions for resource efficient pulp and paper production (raw materials, water, energy, capital) through combined effects of optimized chemistry, raw material blends, and process conditions. Dramatic capital cost reduction of some process parts is anticipated. The program is networking with universities, research institutes, customers, and machine suppliers in such a way that most of the essential parties of the Finnish forest cluster are involved together with best domestic and foreign research groups. It consists of 10 subprojects in which cooperation is made case by case.
